Hypnotherapy continued

Hypnosis - hypnotherapy - altered states.

Patience – client’s have their own fear inside themselves. They come to the therapist, not recognising this fact. Therapist’s are at their best when they give this Position, who resides within each patient - client, a chance to do the work of healing.
(Doctor Albert Schweitzer)

Most of us have experienced a trance like state on many occasion’s, sometimes called an Altered state of mind. We however do not often call it hypnosis. For example, do you ever day dream? And do not notice what is going on around you? Perhaps you have been so caught up in a television programme or film and have not noticed the time passing by. Have you ever been driving especially on a motorway and find yourself missing your turn off, or arriving at your destination, not noticing the time passing, or the distance that you have travelled? All these are hypnotic like trances - altered states.

With hypnosis or hypnotherapy there are normally specific motivations or suggestions, not instructions, in order to achieve an end result. Hypnotherapy will guide the trance and the subconscious mind to achieve a desired result, e.g. the ability to relax and distress, the management of pain, resolving trauma, phobias or indeed any other problem. It enables you to do this for yourself.

Often an individual, when they come back to full consciousness, they will deny that they have been Hypnotised, especially on the first few occasions. Hypnosis is not a totally unique experience. Hypnosis is not sleep, although the receiver might appear to be in this state. Indeed the opposite is true. The brainwaves of those under hypnosis show alert wakefulness. We experience the hypnotic occurrence in our own special way.
