The Shamanic Journey and Soul Retrieval Shamanism
Shamanism is probably the oldest way of healing on this world. The shaman can be described as someone who walks with one foot in the ordinary world and one foot in the spirit world. Shamanic journeying is a way to discover information, provide answers to problems and to enable the release of trapped souls. It is also to return soul energy to oneself and others.
The shaman normally journey’s to meet the spirit who might be seen as spirit helpers, power animals, ancestors, archetypes, angels. All of these are willing to help and guide us all in body. Shaman’s separate non – ordinary reality into three other worlds, the upper, the lower and the middle world. In this setting, the lower world is the world of our connections with the earth. The place where we meet power animals and get help with everyday problems.
The upper world is the world of tutelary spirits, spirit guides, angels, gods and goddesses, where we can receive help and guidance on life’s bigger problems.
The middle world is the world of lost energy, trapped souls, sadness, sorrow and despair.
Soul Retrieval Therapy
As a technique, soul retrieval can be carried out for your own benefit, or to enable the client to go on their own journey. However, for deeper woundings such as those from childhood, for trauma and for forgotten issues it is better for the therapist to journey on behalf of their client. Where there are strong defences the client may well not be able to approach the “wounded child” and may not want to bring back difficult emotions into their conscious awareness.
